Tisha B’Av and Stopping Line 3

Saturday, July 17, 5:30-7:00 pm, on Zoom

On Tisha B’Av, we traditionally mourn the destruction of the Temples in ancient Israel, but we also realize the promise that a change as huge as this destruction brought. The Temple was the center of life for Israelites, and a new center was needed. The whole development of Jewish tradition happened because of this cataclysmic event.

Right now, if our world is going to survive, we need another cataclysm. We need to stop our dependence on fossil fuels. We can join together and learn how we can make a difference in one endangered part of our world.

Commemorate Tisha B’Av and learn how we can help stop Line 3 from destroying Native land and from leaking oil that will destroy the home of significant wildlife and magnificent lands.

We have the privilege of learning from Debora Kodish, founder and long-time Director of the Philadelphia Folklore Project. She recently returned from Minnesota and one of the frontline Water Protectors Camps fighting Enbridge’s proposed Line 3 tar sands pipeline. Line 3 aims to cut through pristine fragile ecosystems and across indigenous lands, in violation of historic treaties with Anishinaabe people. Debora will share her experiences and ways we in Philadelphia can support #StopLine3 #WaterisLife resistance led by indigenous women.
